Welcome to Kitale Rafiki!

Kitale Rafiki aims to provide an education for vulnerable and disabled children around Kitale town Kenya. The main purpose is to continue to develop a specialised school for hearing impaired and deaf children at Birunda.

NEWS-NEWS-NEWS -  25.5.16
Wednesday 1st June I'll be having a chat with Jonathan Cowap on BBC Radio York 103.7FM sometime between 10 and 11am. I'm going to be talking about my experiences in Kenyan and about my family and I moving there in August. Please listen in if you can. If you would like to donate towards the development of Birunda please click here.

NEWS-NEWS-NEWS -  9.4.16

Sylvester informed me yesterday that the school has once again been recognised for the excellent work it is doing and the high quality education and boarding  facilities that it offers the children. As such the National Disability Council have agreed to fund ALL the kitchen, dining room and food store! The grant they are giving is worth about £8500, the additional funds means that I've altered the design, increasing the dining room size and chosen better equipment and materials. This is excellent news.
See 2016 PROJECT link for more details

Since 2008 myself, Sylvester and many other volunteers have helped to raise money and build a permanent, safe and secure school for hearing impaired children around the area of Birunda, Kitale, Kenya.

With around £30,000 raised since 2008 we have been able to: ·
  • Build: 5  classrooms, 2 dormitories (68 beds), a store/workshop, kitchen, office and a
    toilet/wash  block.
  • Furnish all rooms and connected electricity
  • Supply water: by digging a well, installing a pump and four large water tanks. There is now clean gravity fed piped water as well.
  • Create a “farm” with: 4 cows, 5 sheep, chickens and a cat.
  • Plant over 200 trees and bushes
  • Provided: resources, uniform and food for all the pupils and paid for some staff wages (house mothers).
  • Arrange school trips and opportunities to compete in music and sports competitions.
  • And much more besides.

Please view the slideshow to give a quick overview of what has been achieved
