£3000 target to be raised in Uk for a 64 bed dormitory
A brief history. We started with 5 boys in 2008. We soon realised that we'd need accommodation as getting to and from school isn't easy for hearing impaired children in Kenya. We built a dormitory for boys in early 2009. By the end of the year we were in desperate need for a girls dormitory, as a short term fix we utilised a classroom. By 2010 we could happily accommodate 8 girls and 12 boys.
Our numbers have continued to grow and in the past year the numbers have almost doubled. We now as of August 2014 have 18 boys and 18 girls boarding plus a house mother who sleeps in the rooms with the girls. We are full. More than full in fact, meaning some of the smaller children are having to share bed. Not ideal and not what we want.
29th July 2014 Birunda School for the Hearing Impaired received a cheque for 600,000 Kenyan Shillings - around £4400 to put towards a new dormitory. To build a purpose built dormitory for 32 boys and 32 girls which has separate rooms for 2 house mothers and internal washrooms and toilets would cost 1, 200, 000 Kenyan Shillings - around £8800.
The school are aiming to raise £1000 which leaves me aiming to raise £3000 to ensure that we can build our dream dormitory.
