Kitale Street Children

Picture
There are hundreds of children living rough out on the streets of Kitale. Many have come from the North around the Turkana and Pokot regions and some are from even further away. Others are local children from Kipsongo Slum who have been asked to leave by their parents or thrown out.

Within the town many charities and organisations (including Child Rescue Kenya www.childrescuekenya.org/) offer the children a safe place to stay. However the ones still on the streets have fewer places to turn to for help.

Kitale Rafiki in co-operation with a local church and a few other local businesses have helped on a few occasions to organise a day long event where all the children are invited to come and eat, play, wash, hear the world of God and sometimes get a new set of clothes.

Each one of these days can attract up to or even beyond 100 children from as young as 5 up to 18. Its a really great day and the majority of the children respect and thank you whole heartily for helping them. To arrange one of these days and provide clothes for all costs around £200 (or around £2 each). One day we arranged a doctor to come along to give first aid and assist where ever possible, at least 40 of the children had some form of medical need, be it an open wound, worms or severe dehydration. To offer this vital facility could cost at least £100, this would hopefully include any further monitoring of medical conditions.
